Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
